Dr. K.D. Kokate, DDG (Agriculture Extension), ICAR along with Dr. Y.V. Singh, ZPD, Zone-VI, Jodhpur visited an adopted village Sindhari on 25th January 2014. They also observed Field Day organized by the KVK, Barmer. They had an interaction with farmers growing pomegranate on the occasion. Farmers informed that KVK officials advised them to adopt crop diversification. Now, these farmers earn a net profit of Rs.2 lakh per hectare from Pomegranate crop in 8 villages.
Dr. Kokate appreciated the farmers’ efforts for their innovation and advised them to form a Pomegranate Growers’ Association as practiced in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan to enable sharing of experiences for producing export quality pomegranate. Later, DDG interacted with farmers of village Chohatan growing medicinal plants Sankhpusphi and Mulethi. He encouraged farmers for horizontal spread of the new commercial crop in Barmer district.
DDG also interacted with KVK, Barmer officials and appreciated them for their significant role in developing the arid region of Rajasthan. Dr. Kokate hoisted the National Flag on Republic Day and addressed the gathering at ZPD office. He appreciated the achievements made by KVKs.
