ICAR-NRC on Meat, Hyderabad celebrates 23rd Foundation Day

The ICAR-National Research Centre on Meat, Hyderabad celebrated its 23rd Foundation Day today.

In his address, the Chief Guest, Shri Suresh Chitturi, Vice-Chairman & Managing Director, SrinivasaTM Farms Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad appreciated the Centre’s efforts in the sustainable development of the meat sector in the country. Shri Chitturi urged the Institute for conducting more training programmes for the development of the skilled manpower in the meat sector.

The Guest-of-Honor, Shri Rajesh K., Head (Food Safety & Quality), Delightful Gourmet Pvt. Ltd., (Licious), Bengaluru, Karnataka applauded the Institute’s scientific interventions and Entrepreneurship development activities.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. S.B. Barbuddhe, Director, ICAR-NRC on Meat, Hyderabad highlighted the Centre’s contributions for the betterment of the stakeholders and undertaking the concerted efforts for the betterment of the meat sector in the country.

The Institute also released the “Immunochromatography-based Chicken Detection Kit (ICDK)” on the occasion.

The Kit contains the Extraction Buffer, Pestle and Mortar for the extraction of the target analytes and assay strips. The entire test can be performed in any resource-limited settings within 15 Minutes. The developed Kit is highly sensitive, species-specific and can be stored at an ambient temperature for 2 to 3 Months. Each Test costs approximately Rs. 35/- only. The Kits were also distributed to the poultry industry personnel and Start-Up Entrepreneurs for the field level testing and further validation.

It has been developed under the Department of Biotechnology’ Project - “Development of Rapid Immunochromatographic Assay Kit for Field Level Detection of Meat Adulteration”.

The Senior Officials of ICAR Institutes, State Agricultural Universities and State Government’s various other Departments also participated in the event.
