The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata in collaboration with the Sundarban Dreams organized the “Interface Meet for 24 Farmers’ Producers’ Organizations from 8 Districts, 20 Hill Fishers from Darjeeling, West Bengal and 30 Farmers from Bihar” today.
The Chief Guest, Dr. M.V. Rao, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of West Bengal highlighted the positive impact of collective efforts by the small farmers through the Farmers’ Producers’ Organizations. Dr. Rao also emphasized on the cooperation and cohesiveness for the success of FPOs.
The Guest of Honor, Shri Santhosha Gubbi, I.F.S., Additional Secretary, Panchayat & Rural Development Department underlined the importance of group formation and distribution of the defined roles among the members for the simplification of the work.
Shri S. Jones Justin, Deputy Field Director, Sundarban Tiger Reserve, West Bengal outlined the benefits of synergistic interaction between the Government and the farmers in achieving the desired development.
Shri S. Niyogi, DGM, West Bengal State Corporative Bank Limited and Shri Radhakrishna Mondal, Assistant Director, Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of West Bengal also attended the Meeting.
Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries, Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore highlighted the importance of sustainable development to achieve the self-reliance by the farmers. The distribution of inputs like stocking of fish fingerlings, fish feed, lime and medicine to more than 2,500 marginal farmers of Sunderban along with the relief provided after the cyclonic storms like Amphan and Yaas, etc., were underlined by Dr. Das.
