The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Government of Chhattisgarh has initiated the Production Enhancement Programme in Small Reservoirs of Chhattisgarh by involving the Tribal Fishermen Cooperative Societies under the Scheduled Tribe Component today.

Under this, the 2 ICAR-CIFRI Pen HDPE, Boat with Engine and 2 Tonnes of ICAR-CIFRI Cagegrow Fish Feed for Pen Culture in 10 Reservoirs will be provided for the In-Situ raising of the Fish Seed.
Shri N.S. Nag, Director of Fisheries, Government of Chhattisgarh; State Fisheries Department Officers (ADF, Fisheries) and the Members of 10 Tribal Primary Fishermen Co-operative Societies (PFCS) of Chhattisgarh attended the Meeting.
Earlier, welcoming the dignitaries, Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, Kolkata highlighted the importance of pen culture in improving the fish production levels and productivity of the inland open waters of Chhattisgarh. The carrying out of around 20 Model Pen Demonstrations in 10 different Reservoirs of Chhattisgarh with the ICAR-CIFRI’s Intervention for the first time was underlined by Dr. Das. He also underlined the initiation of the similar interventions by the ICAR-CIFRI in Jharkhand where the Reservoir productivity levels have been increased. Dr. Das stated that the installation of the Pen Culture Technology will enhance an additional 200 Tonnes fish production from the reservoirs.
The Institute also organized the Virtual Meeting to discuss the plan of action with the stakeholders.
