The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Osmanabad (Maharashtra) working under administrative control of VNMKV, Parbhani organised ‘Women Farmers Melawa’.
Dr Lakhan Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Pune, Maharashtra focussed more to empower the farm women for making them self-depend. He cited examples of successful women entrepreneurs. His more concern was to develop entrepreneurial abilities of the farm women. Women actively involved in crop husbandry, animal husbandry, preserving indigenous knowledge, managing time and money in effective. He said that women entrepreneurs should be vigilant, good planner, calculated risk taker, concern for excel, organising themselves, identifying appropriate enterprises and linking with market. Role of women is more in overall enhancing net income of the family.
Dr. D.B. Deosarkar, Director (Extension Education) Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani, Maharashtra urged the women farmers Melawa on Occasion of 191th Birth anniversary of Smt Savitribai Phule. He emphasised on the importance of agricultural based enterprises and marketing of value added products. Also he mentioned that the women farmers should give focus on production of bio-fortified varieties in cropping pattern.
Smt Pranjal Shinde, Project Director (District Rural Development Technology, Osmanabad) suggested that the farm women to improve girls’ education in different fields. The progressive farm woman Smt Shailaja Narwade from Masala village shared the information on desi seed kit developed by her self-help group.
The successful entrepreneur Smt Vanita Tambake, Director of Priyadarshni Mahila Self-help Group, Akkalkot district Solapur expressed, how she developed her value added products business from small scale to big entrepreneurship and capture the market of big cities of Maharashtra.
Dr. Lala Saheb Deshmukh, KVK, Osmanabad coordinated the programme. In total, 450 farm women participated virtually in Women Farmers’ Melawa.
