Commemorating the 15th year of declaration of Solan as Mushroom City of India, one day Mushroom Mela was organized on 10th September at the Directorate of Mushroom Research (DMR). The Mela was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Smt. Meera Mohanty, Deputy Commissioner, Solan. Mela showcased the latest technologies developed by the Directorate for the direct benefit of mushroom growers. These included zero-energy low cost tunnel for making compost, DMR method of composting, improved varieties of oyster, button etc.
More than 25 government and private entrepreneurs, mushroom growers and NGOs exhibited their products and around 900 farmers from different states such as Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Orissa, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh participated in the Mela.
For the benefit of the participants, Kisan Goshthi was also organized in which farmers, mushroom growers, and extension workers visiting the Mela participated and interacted face to face with the scientists and experts of DMR on various mushroom related problems. Mushroom Mela provided an opportunity to the farmers and mushroom growers to seek ‘on the spot’ solutions to their mushroom related problems. On this occasion 5 farmers from different states were honored for adopting innovative technologies and contribution made in mushroom production. DMR, Solan organizes ‘Mushroom Mela’ on 10th September, every year, the day on which Solan was declared as ‘Mushroom City of India’ since 1997.
