Kisan Goshthi organized

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil & Water Conservation, Dehradun, Uttarakhand organized a Kisan Goshthi to address the issues of Rabi Crops besides help improve livelihood, food and nutritional security at Kotimachak in Raipur Block, Dehradun today.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Bankey Bihari, Principal Scientist (Agricultural Extension), ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun & Principal Investigator, Farmers’ First Project outlined the various interventions executed under the Project and the benefits accrued to the farming communities of the adopted Villages. Dr. Bihari also urged the farmers to continue practicing the introduced & beneficial interventions and technologies.

The importance of a balanced diet, diversification of food production, consumption and the potential of livestock, poultry & fish farming-based interventions & technologies in meeting the rural livelihoods & food security was underlined by Dr. M. Muruganandam, Principal Scientist (Fisheries Science), ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun.

Shri Gajendra Kumar, Chief State Marketing Manager, KRIBHCO, Dehradun highlighted the schemes and programmes available at the KRIBHCO for the benefit of farmers.

The stringent procedure followed in assessing and procuring the seed quality gains from the farmers' production and the buyback arrangement existing with the USTDC was briefed by Dr. B.B. Mishra, Project Officer, Uttarakhand Seeds and Tarai Development Corporation (USTDC), Dehradun.

The farmers were sensitized about the modern & improved farming avenues and income-generating activities and the ill-effects of unscientific-ways of applying the fertilizers, soil preparation and farming practices during the occasion.

About 100 farmers were felicitated with the Certified Seeds of Wheat to produce Quality Grains and get benefitted from the USTDC’s buy-back arrangement for the procurement and distribution of seeds

The Goshthi registered participation by over 150 farmers, farm women and village representatives.
