ICAR-CIFRI celebrates Foundation Day

The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore celebrated its 73^rd Foundation Day here today. The Institute also organized the “Matsya Samriddhi Mela” on the occasion.

 

The inauguration ceremony of celebrations marked the ranching of 30,000 advanced fingerlings of Indian major carp seeds in the River Ganga by the guests at the Barrackpore Ghat.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Vijayalakshmi Saksena, General President, Indian Science Congress applauded the Director and all staff members of ICAR-CIFRI on the momentous occasion. Dr. Saksena stressed that the ranching efforts are going to pave the way for the improved fish diversity in the river Ganga.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. N. Saha, Vice-Chancellor, Burdwan University applauded the ICAR-CIFRI for organizing Matsya Samriddhi Mela on a large scale with the participation of more than 2,500 farmers.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. Ashok Kumar Saksena, Former General President, Indian Science Congress lauded the CIFRI’s efforts to create the awareness among the farmers for the second green revolution.

Dr. Subrata Mandal, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Kolkata complimented the CIFRI’s efforts and initiatives. He also extended and assured of every possible support by the NABARD for the various programmes.

Shri Navin Nayak, Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra, West Bengal and Andaman & Nicobar Islands briefed about the training of 800 youths by the ICAR-CIFRI in the Year - 2018-19. He said that around 1,000 youths will be sent to the ICAR-CIFRI for the training next year.

Shri Bablu Majumdar, Awardee Fish Farmer shared about his achievement through the help of ICAR-CIFRI. He also briefed that presently, many fishers are getting field training at his farm.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. B.K. Das, Director, CIFRI, Barrackpore lauded the CIFRIans, Progressive fish farmers, fisheries industries, etc., for being the part of the momentous 72 Years journey of ICAR-CIFRI success story. The Director also briefed about the Institute’s achievement and continuing efforts towards the second green revolution.

The occasion held Fisheries Exhibition. The stalls depicted encompassing live fish, Hilsa life story, ornamental fish unit, feed companies and fish health units, etc.

The Mela also held Farmers’-Scientists’-Interaction Session, Industry Interface Meet, Women fishers’ Session, etc.

Around 2,000 farmers including 100 progressive fish farmers, 300 students of different universities, 200 youths, entrepreneurs, fish traders, fish processors, SHGs, ornamental fish growers and hatchery owners marked their participation in the event.
