Dr. Girish Patil S., Director, ICAR-NRCM, addressed key challenges such as habitat degradation, disease outbreaks, and limited market access, highlighting the need for scientific breeding, health management, and better infrastructure.

A special highlight was the demonstration of the traditional Lura system, an indigenous practice by the Galo and Adi tribes involving communal fencing to protect croplands from free-ranging Mithuns a testament to community-based livestock and land management.
The event also featured cultural performances by the Mori Youth Group, celebrating the deep cultural connection of tribal communities with Mithun.
A farmer-scientist interaction session addressed concerns related to predator attacks, disease control, veterinary outreach, and market linkages. ICAR-NRCM experts provided on-the-spot advisories and assured continued technical support.
Following the Mela, the ICAR-NRCM team visited Yaki Tato Village to conduct farmer meetings and document phenotypic traits of Mithuns supporting efforts in genetic characterization, selective breeding, and conservation.
