ICAR-NEH, Umiam conducted an intensive awareness programme under Khet Bachao Abhiyaan for the members and farmers of RI Lajong FPO on the occasion of World Environment Day today at Purdua village, Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya.
Farmers were apprised about the importance of soil health for environmental sustainability and the objectives of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan programme which aims to promote soil health and sustainable agriculture through balanced use of fertilizers, use of biofertilizers, conservation of natural resources, climate-resilient agricultural practices.
The farmers were also encouraged to adopt sustainable farming practices to improve productivity and also protect the r environment. During the programme, seeds of frenchbean, coriander, bitter gourd, cucumber were also distributed among 64 farmers who participated in the programme.
