Malaysian Delegation Visits ICAR-IIMR to Strengthen Millet Research Collaboration

A three-member senior delegation from the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute, under Malaysia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, visited the ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research, Hyderabad on 25–26 June 2025.

The visit was part of a study programme organized by the African Asian Rural Development Organisation in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, to enhance bilateral cooperation in millet research and development, with a special focus on sorghum and quinoa.

Led by Dr. C. Tara Satyavathi, Director, ICAR-IIMR, the two-day visit featured a series of technical sessions and interactive discussions. On Day 1, the delegation received an overview of the Global Centre of Excellence on “Shree Anna”, followed by a session on improved millet production practices.

Day 2 focused on sorghum technologies, including sessions on sweet sorghum, fodder sorghum, and kharif and rabi sorghum led by domain experts. The delegates also toured the millet primary processing unit, where they observed demonstrations of value addition technologies and processing equipment, and visited Nutrihub, IIMR’s technology business incubator, to explore millet-based food innovations and startup incubation models.

The Malaysian delegation lauded ICAR-IIMR’s leadership in millet research and expressed keen interest in fostering future collaborations, particularly in areas such as technology transfer, value chain development, and policy support for promoting millets in Malaysia.
