ICAR–National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources, Bengaluru, celebrated Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2025 at its Hebbal campus, marking the concluding day of the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada and commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of the revered freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
Chief Guest Dr. S. N. Sushil, Director, ICAR–NBAIR, addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance and origins of the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada. He emphasised the vital role of tribal farming communities in realising the vision of Viksit Bharat through sustainable agricultural practices. Dr. Sushil underlined the importance of biological control agents in promoting organic and natural farming systems aimed at producing residue-free agricultural commodities. He also urged the preservation and celebration of tribal cultural heritage as a key pillar of socio-economic development.

Experts from ICAR–NBAIR briefed the farmers on the institute’s contributions to nation-building through advanced pest and disease management technologies. They encouraged the adoption of eco-friendly approaches in organic and natural farming, which enhance crop productivity while safeguarding environmental health.
A farmer–scientist interaction session was held, during which experts addressed queries related to pest and disease challenges in coconut, arecanut, and a range of horticultural and vegetable crops.
To mark the occasion, Dr. S. N. Sushil distributed bio-control inputs to all participating farmers, reiterating the Bureau’s commitment to supporting tribal communities through sustainable agricultural solutions.
The event witnessed the participation of 50 tribal farmers from Tipturu village in Tumkur district, along with scientists, technical personnel, and administrative staff of the Bureau.
