Scientists from ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, in collaboration with officials from agriculture and allied departments, conducted an extensive outreach campaign across Almora district under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan.
As part of the initiative, three teams were deployed covering 17 villages. In Syalde, interactive sessions (goshthis) were held at Tamadhoun and Bharsoli Panchayat Ghars, reaching farmers from villages including Valmara, Kaihadgaon, Udaipur, Sumoli, Basnal, and Kotsari. The team, sensitized farmers on improved kharif crop varieties, crop protection techniques, and hill-specific farm tools.

Farmers shared challenges such as water scarcity and crop damage by wild animals. The team offered solutions including improved varieties of finger millet, transplanting techniques, and protection measures.
A parallel programme in Hawalbagh block engaged 151 farmers from 32 villages. Discussions focused on kharif cultivation, exotic horticulture, entrepreneurship, nano urea application, and government schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
Throughout the campaign, line department officials addressed farmer queries and highlighted agriculture-related schemes. Farmer feedback was collected to guide future interventions.
The initiative underscores a science-led approach to empower hill farmers and promote sustainable and inclusive agricultural growth in the region.
