The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) organized the first zonal meeting of its institutes at the ICAR–Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun, today. The meeting was chaired by Dr. M.L. Jat, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), who reviewed the progress, achievements, and ongoing initiatives of the nine participating ICAR institutes. Dr. Jat underscored the need for greater collaboration, synergy-building, talent nurturing, and skill enhancement across ICAR institutions to effectively address emerging national challenges.
Dr. A.K. Nayak, Deputy Director General (NRM), ICAR participated in the discussions along with Assistant Directors General of various SMDs, Director (Personnel), Director (Finance), the Chief Vigilance Officer, Directors of the nine institutes, and their administrative and finance officers.
The deliberations centered on key administrative and financial matters, identification of operational gaps, and the development of strategies to strengthen governance mechanisms and overall efficiency within the Council.
A wide range of issues including procurement challenges, GeM-related constraints, contractual service matters, and other administrative and financial concerns were discussed in depth. The meeting emphasized the need for improved coordination both among ICAR divisions and within individual institutes. Matters related to establishment, estate management, legal affairs, and vigilance were also taken up as part of the agenda.
In the afternoon session, Dr Jat and Dr Nayak conducted an exclusive review of ICAR–IISWC, interacting with its scientists and staff.
Dr. M. Madhu, Director, ICAR–IISWC, presented the institute’s major achievements and progress over the past five years. The leadership provided strategic guidance for formulating the institute’s five-year vision and future roadmap.
The meeting witnessed the participation of around 60 senior ICAR officers from New Delhi and other ICAR institutes, along with about 100 scientists and staff, both offline and online, from ICAR–IISWC.
Institutes that participated in the programme included: ICAR–IISWC, Dehradun (NRM); ICAR–VPKAS, Almora (Crop Sciences); ICAR–DCFR, Bhimtal (Fisheries Sciences); ICAR–CIRC, Meerut (Animal Sciences); ICAR–IIFSR, Modipuram (NRM); ICAR–IVRI, Bareilly (Animal Sciences); ICAR–CPRI, Meerut (Animal Sciences); ICAR–CPRI, Shimla (Horticultural Sciences); and ICAR–DMR, Solan (Horticultural Sciences).
