21 – 22 April 2025, Kashmir
As part of its initiative to expand grape cultivation in non-traditional regions, the ICAR-National Research Centre for Grapes (ICAR-NRCG) organised field visits to Ganderbal and Baramulla districts in Kashmir.
Dr. Kaushik Banerjee, Director, ICAR-NRCG, along with other senior officials reviewed the progress of grape plantations established with planting material supplied by the institute.

The team reported over 90% success in plant establishment at the Centre of Excellence, Zawoora, under the Department of Horticulture, Kashmir Division, Government of Jammu & Kashmir. In a significant step toward long-term collaboration, ICAR-NRCG signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Horticulture, Kashmir Division, on 21st April 2025. The MoU aims to promote grape cultivation and build local capacity in the Union Territory.
On 22nd April, the team visited ICAR-Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture (ICAR-CITH), where a newly established grape demonstration block has been included under the AICRP-Fruits (Grapes) program. This block is expected to serve as a source of healthy planting material for future research and expansion efforts.
These efforts mark a significant move toward diversifying horticultural practices and enhancing farmers' livelihoods in the region.
