ICAR-NMRI Inaugurates ICAR-Sponsored Short Course on waste valorisation for sustainable livestock and poultry sector

28 January 2026, Hyderabad

ICAR–National Meat Research Institute, Hyderabad, inaugurated ICAR-sponsored short course titled “Innovations in Waste Valorization from Livestock and Poultry Sector towards Viksit Bharat 2047: Ensuring Sustainability and Circular Economy” on 28 January, 2026. The ten-day training programme is being conducted from 28 January to 06 February 2026 at the ICAR-NMRI campus.

The programme was graced by Dr. Sunil S. Hiremath, Conservator of Forests and Director, Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, as the Chief Guest. In his address, Dr. Hiremath emphasized the importance of integrated, eco-friendly waste management solutions and underscored the need for capacity building through specialized training programmes.

Dr. S. B. Barbuddhe, Director, ICAR-NMRI, delivered the opening address, highlighting the critical role of innovative waste valorisation technologies in achieving environmental sustainability and contributing to the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. On this occasion, the training manual of the short course was formally released.

Dr. Rituparna Banerjee, Course Director, welcomed the participants and presented an overview of the short course, emphasizing its significance in advancing sustainable waste management practices and promoting circular economy principles in the livestock and poultry sector.

A total of sixteen participants, including Assistant Professors, Scientists, and Associate Professors from State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) and ICAR institutes representing nine Indian states will be participating in the programme.

The programme was attended by ICAR-NMRI staff members, students, and research personnel including RAs, SRFs, and JRFs.
