ICAR–National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata, celebrated the commencement of the 150th Anniversary of India’s National Song, Vande Mataram, today. The iconic composition, meaning ‘Mother, I Bow to Thee’, continues to serve as a timeless symbol of India’s unity, spirit, and national pride having inspired generations of freedom fighters and nation builders alike.
As part of the nationwide launch of the year-long commemoration, ICAR–NINFET organized a mass singing of Vande Mataram by all staff members at the institute premises.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. D.P. Ray, Acting Director, ICAR-NINFET emphasized that the celebration not only pays tribute to Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s immortal creation but also underscores its pivotal role in awakening patriotic fervour during India’s freedom struggle. He stated that through such initiatives, the spirit of Vande Mataram is being reinterpreted for contemporary India bridging the nation’s glorious past with its aspirations for a united, self-reliant, and culturally vibrant future.
The programme concluded with the collective rendition of Vande Mataram by all staff members, echoing the spirit of unity and reverence for the motherland.
