ICAR–Indian Institute of Spices Research marked the culmination of its Golden Jubilee celebrations with a solemn Foundation Day ceremony at its headquarters in Kozhikode.
The Chief Guest, Dr. B. Ashok, IAS, Agricultural Production Commissioner, Govt of Kerala, and Vice Chancellor, Kerala Agricultural University, commended the institute’s instrumental role in advancing spice cultivation in India through innovative research and technology.

The event was presided over by Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticultural Science), ICAR, New Delhi. He also laid the foundation stone for the proposed Golden Jubilee Hall.
Dr. R. Dinesh, Director, ICAR–IISR, presented an overview of the key initiatives and milestones achieved during the Golden Jubilee year.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the inauguration of the state-of-the-art Advanced Biocontrol Laboratory, aimed at enhancing sustainable pest management practices.

The celebration witnessed the presence of several eminent dignitaries, including Dr. Sudhakar Pandey, Assistant Director General (Flowers, Vegetables, Spices & Medicinal and Aromatic Plants), ICAR; Prof. P. Raveendran, Vice-Chancellor, University of Calicut; former ICAR–IISR Directors Dr. V. A. Parthasarathy and Dr. K. Nirmal Babu; Dr. Balachandra Hebbar, Director, ICAR–CPCRI; Dr. G. Byju, Director, ICAR–CTCRI; Dr. Manoj P. Samuel, Executive Director, CWRDM; Dr. Homey Cheriyan, Director, DASD; and Shri Ramkumar Menon, Chairman, World Spice Organization.
As part of the festivities, the institute released several significant scientific publications and entered into licensing agreements for selected research technologies. The prestigious Spice Awards 2025 were also presented, honouring excellence in spice research, development, and entrepreneurship.
