ICAR–Indian Institute of Millets Research, Hyderabad, successfully organized a four-day residential training and exposure visit on ‘Millet Production, Processing, and Value Addition’ for 25 farmers from Sundargarh district, Odisha. The program was held from 24th to 27th June 2025.
The training was inaugurated by Dr. C. Tara Satyavathi, Director, ICAR-IIMR. He emphasized the institute’s ongoing initiatives to promote millets and strengthen the millet value chain across the country.

The program included practical field demonstrations, hands-on training with millet processing equipment, and exposure visits to successful millet-based enterprises such as GMRK Foods and the Millet Processing & Incubation Center at PJTSAU. Farmers were introduced to a variety of innovative millet-based products including multi-millet chikki, barnyard millet vermicelli, sorghum cookies, and other nutritious items.
During the valedictory session, Dr. G. Shyam Prasad, Director (In-Charge), along with other dignitaries, distributed seeds of major and minor millets to the participating farmers. He encouraged them to adopt improved cultivation practices and act as ambassadors of millet farming in their communities.
This initiative is part of ICAR-IIMR’s broader mission to promote nutrition-sensitive agriculture and enhance millet-based livelihoods across India.
