ICAR- IIFSR, Modipuram Celebrated its 34th Foundation Day

ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research, Modipuram, Meerut celebrated its 34th Foundation Day .

The programme was inaugurated by the chief guest of the function, Dr. Panjab Singh, Chancellor, RLBCAU, Jhansi and Ex. Secretary DARE and DG, ICAR. In his address, he congratulated the employees of the Institute and emphasized that, ICAR-IIFSR is the only institute in the country which integrates all the technologies given by NARS Institutes in the form of integrated farming system (IFS)/ integrated organic farming system (IOFS), models with aim of solving food, nutrition and livelihood security of farmers. It also takes care of the environment and mitigates the ill effect of changing climate.

Dr. S.K. Chaudhary, DDG(NRM),ICAR is the Chairman of the function and delivered a virtual address to the gathering. He expressed his admiration for ICAR-IIFSR's glorious journey which started with simple fertilizer trials in 1952, culminating in its status as a full-fledged Institute in 2014. Its focus on holistic research on integrated farming systems is worth appreciating. Dr. Chaudhary emphasized the importance of a well-planned, progressive crop plan and business models in integrated/organic farming to ensure the economic security of the farming community.

Dr. K. K. Singh, the Vice-Chancellor of SVPUA&T, Meerut, and Dr. Amar P. Garg, the Vice-Chancellor of Shobhit University, Meerut, were the guests of honor at the event. They also praised ICAR-IIFSR's efforts in serving the farming community for their food, nutritional, and livelihood security.

Dr. Rajbir Singh, ADG (AAFCC), ICAR the Guest of Honor and, in his speech, stated that agriculture's challenges in the next 25 years would differ from those of today. He urged scientists to develop futuristic farming system models to address these upcoming challenges.

 Dr. Sunil Kumar, Director (ICAR-IIFSR) welcomed all the dignitaries and participants. He presented the Director’s Report and informed that, Institute has developed 74 prototype IFS Models for almost all the agro-ecological zones of the country along with 8 IOFS Models which are having potential to increase the farmers income by 3-5 times with saving on expenditure of chemical fertilizers from the market by 41-66% through recycling of farm waste/byproducts.

Special invitees and ex Directors ICAR-IIFSR, Dr. R. L. Yadav, Dr. S. K. Sharma and Dr B. Gangwar appreciated the research achievements of the Institute and also given valuable suggestions to scientists for improving the quality of futuristic research programmes and solving the problems of small and marginal farmers.

 A special dedicated show was organized on best millets dish and millet identification for the women participants. Best performers were honored with trophy and certificates by the chief guest and other dignitaries.

The programme was celebrated in Hybrid mode (physically and virtually both) in which, all the employees of ICAR-IIFSR, PIs and Co-PIs from different AICRP-IFS, AINP-OF Centres; Director/representatives from different NRM Institutes and representatives from ICAR-CPRIC, Modipuram, ICAR-CIRC, Meerut, SVPUA&T, Meerut; farmers, FPOs, SHGs, and agri-preneurs  took part during different events.
