ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi organized a felicitation programme to honour Ms. Julie Borlaug, the Grand Daughter of Nobel Laurate and the Father of Green Revolution Dr. Norman E Borlaug. and the President of Borlaug Foundation and Council of Advisor for World Food Prize.
The programme was chaired by Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi. Dr. Bram Govaerts, Director General, CIMMYT, Mexico, and Dr. BM Prasanna, Managing Director, Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA), and CIMMYT Distinguished Scientist & Regional Director for Asia graced the program as guest of honors.

Dr Rao, warmly welcomed the guests, felicitated Ms. Julie Borlaug. He summarized the contributions of Dr. Norman E Borlaug for Green Revolution, and averting global hunger, and his close association with Bharat Ratna Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, Father of Green Revolution in India, from sharing the seeds of dwarf wheat varieties, regular visit to India to mentor popularization of dwarf wheat varieties and wheat improvement from 1965 to 1971.
Ms. Julie Borlaug, lauded ICAR-IARI for inviting her to the birth place of green revolution where her Grand Father Dr. Norman E Borlaug worked in close association with Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, scientists of ICAR-IARI, farmers and policy makers. She emphasized the commitment of Borlaug Foundation to work with ICAR-IARI towards sustainable agriculture.
Dr. Govaerts, appreciated to collaborative research between ICAR-IARI and CIMMYT and emphasized the need to work more closely to make the agriculture more productive and climate resilient.
Dr. Prasanna recalled the contributions of visit of Dr. Norman E. Borlaug and his inspiring address at the 34th Convocation of ICAR-IARI in 1996, when despite rainwater dripping through the pandal onto him he urged students to remember the tireless efforts of farmers working in the rains to ensure the nation’s food security.

Dr. Viswanathan C, Joint Director (Research) recalled the special affection Dr. Norman E Borlaug has with the institute, and his role in transfer of 36 acres of land from the military of Government of India to the ICAR-IARI Regional Station Wellington. The event concluded with a vote of thanks.
The event was graced by Dr. Anupama Singh, Dean & Jt. Director (Education); Heads of the Divisions, and Professors. The participants were inspired by the contributions and legacy of Dr. Norman E Borlaug and Prof. M.S. Swaminathan.
