The Division of Floriculture and Landscaping, ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, successfully organized the Chrysanthemum Field Day today. The event marked an important initiative toward promoting farmer prosperity and entrepreneurship through science-led floriculture.
Expressing his happiness on the occasion, Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR–IARI, stated, “I am happy to share that the Chrysanthemum Field Day witnessed the active participation of a wide spectrum of stakeholders, reflecting the strong linkage between research, farmers, industry, policy and markets.” He emphasized that high-value crops like chrysanthemum, supported by improved varieties, quality planting material, value addition, and strong market linkages, can play a decisive role in enhancing farmers’ income.
Dr. S. K. Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticulture), ICAR, attended the programme as the Chief Guest and highlighted the importance of effective dissemination of advanced technologies and improved varieties to farmers. He noted that with scientific production practices and market-oriented approaches, floriculture—particularly chrysanthemum—can emerge as a highly profitable enterprise.
During the programme, improved chrysanthemum varieties developed by ICAR–IARI—Pusa Guldasta, Pusa Shwet, and Pusa Sundari—were showcased. These varieties are known for higher flower yield, superior keeping quality, and strong market acceptance. Dr. Viswanathan Chinnusamy, Joint Director (Research), emphasized livelihood opportunities through value-added chrysanthemum products such as bouquets, dry flowers, pot plants, and online marketing, especially for rural youth and women’s groups.
On the occasion, an MoU was signed between ICAR–IARI and Ramdhari Seeds Pvt. Ltd. for large-scale propagation and supply of quality planting material of the chrysanthemum variety Pusa Guldasta.
Overall, the Chrysanthemum Field Day successfully connected farmers and entrepreneurs with innovation-driven floriculture technologies, offering end-to-end guidance from production to marketing. Participants described the programme as informative, practical, and motivating. The event concluded successfully with the dedicated efforts of the scientists, students, and staff of the Division of Floriculture and Landscaping.
The event saw enthusiastic participation of over 100 stakeholders.
