ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad, organised an advocacy programme on balanced fertilization today at Manthan Gowrelly village in Yacharam mandal of Rangareddy district, Telangana, under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) programme.
The programme focused on promoting sustainable nutrient management practices among farmers. Scientists highlighted the importance of soil test-based balanced fertilization and cautioned against the excessive use of urea due to its adverse impact on soil health, crop productivity, and rising input costs.

Farmers were also sensitised about the harmful effects of crop residue burning, particularly rice residue burning, and were encouraged to adopt environmentally sustainable alternatives. The benefits of biofertilizers in reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers and improving soil health were explained in detail.
The programme also covered the advantages and methods of using biofertilizers for seed treatment, root dipping of seedlings, and field application along with organic manures.
Farmers were educated on proper soil sampling techniques and scientific seed treatment practices using biofertilizers.
Around 96 farmers from Manthan Gowrelly village actively participated in the programme.
