ICAR-CIFA Signs MoU for Establishing Multiplier Unit of Genetically Improved AhR-Jayanti Rohu and CIFA-Amrit Catla

ICAR–Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Shri Deepak Kumar Swain, Proprietor, M/S Jasoda Hatchery, Randiahat, Bhadrak, Odisha, to establish an authorized multiplier unit for disseminating the genetically improved AhR-Jayanti Rohu and CIFA-Amrit Catla two elite fish strains developed by the institute through selective breeding.

The MoU, valid for a period of five years (from 29 September 2025 to 28 September 2030), was formalized at the Dr. V. R. P. Sinha Agri-Business Incubation (ABI) Centre of the institute.

Dr. P. K. Sahoo, Director, ICAR-CIFA, emphasized the institute’s pivotal role in advancing freshwater aquaculture technologies across the country. He highlighted that the widespread adoption of these improved strains can significantly enhance fish productivity and contribute to farmers’ income growth. Dr. Sahoo also underscored the importance of maintaining genetic purity at the multiplier unit level to ensure the consistent supply of quality seed to fish farmers.

Expressing his gratitude, Shri Deepak Kumar Swain shared his experience in aquaculture and expressed confidence that the dissemination of genetically improved strains such as AhR-Jayanti Rohu and CIFA-Amrit Catla will greatly benefit fish farmers across Odisha and other regions.

On the same occasion, two new incubatees joined ICAR-CIFA’s Agri-Business Incubation Centre to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in freshwater aquaculture. Agreements were signed. These collaborations further strengthen ICAR-CIFA’s incubation network aimed at supporting aquaculture-based start-ups.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by scientists, staff members, and stakeholders of ICAR-CIFA.
