To mark the celebrations of the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (18th to 24th November, 2021) and the World Fisheries Day on 21st November, 2021, respectively, the ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai organized a Webinar today.

The Chief Guest, Dr. G. Ganga, Associate Professor, Sree Ayyappa College, University of Kerala delivered a Talk on “Antimicrobial resistance: A global threat”. and covered wide aspects on antimicrobials, their discovery, timeline of development of resistance, mechanism of resistance and ways to manage the spread of AMR in all the sectors such as human, livestock and fisheries.
In his address, Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA, Chennai highlighted the importance of the awareness creation on AMR towards sustainable fisheries. The situation of AMR in aquaculture practices was also underlined by Dr. Jithendran.
The Webinar was organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
