ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijaya Puram Promotes Good Agricultural Practices and Sustainable Farming through Khet Bachao Abhiyan at Guptapara Village

An awareness programme under the Khet Bachao Abhiyan was organized today at Guptapara Village in collaboration with KVK South Andaman, the State Agriculture Department, ATMA, and the Gram Panchayat of Guptapara.

The programme highlighted the importance of adopting good agricultural practices for protecting and improving farm productivity. Participants were encouraged to gradually reduce the use of chemical inputs and replace them with organic manures and eco-friendly plant protection measures.

Discussions focused on the selection of suitable fields, crops and varieties, along with effective management of soil health, crops, diseases, and pests to ensure sustainable farming and safeguard agricultural lands.

The programme also emphasized the benefits of organic and natural farming, the drawbacks of excessive chemical use, and the importance of balanced fertilizer application in crop cultivation. Farmers were sensitized to eco-friendly approaches for the management of crop diseases and pests, promoting environmentally sustainable and economically viable agricultural practices.
