A group of nine IAS officer trainees from the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie, visited the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Hoshiarpur, under Punjab Agricultural University.
The visit commenced with a briefing by KVK scientists, highlighting the centre’s mandate and key interventions, including frontline demonstrations for technology dissemination, on-farm trials for location-specific validation, and capacity-building programmes for farmers and rural youth.
During the field tour, the trainees visited the instructional farm, laboratories, Technology Park, and various demonstration units. They observed practical, field-ready models such as kitchen and nutrition gardens for household food security, an herbal garden featuring medicinal plants, scientific beekeeping for income enhancement, and integrated farming systems incorporating dairy and goatry. A major highlight of the visit was the paddy straw-based biogas plant, showcasing an eco-friendly solution for crop residue management and renewable energy generation.
The trainees appreciated KVK Hoshiarpur’s proactive efforts in promoting sustainable residue management, reducing stubble burning, and strengthening environmental stewardship through awareness campaigns, training programmes, and IEC activities. Describing the visit as insightful and enriching, they commended the KVK’s role in effectively bridging the lab-to-land gap.
They also acknowledged the centre’s contributions towards farmer empowerment through natural resource conservation, crop diversification, promotion of natural farming, development of allied enterprises, and need-based skill development programmes tailored to local conditions.
