ICAR–National Meat Research Institute, Hyderabad, organized a five-day Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) on “Hygienic Pork Production and Processing” from 1–5 December 2025, organized under the NEH component.
As part of the inaugural event, ICAR-NMRI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Association of Lady Entrepreneurs of India (ALEAP). Established in 1993, ALEAP has been instrumental in empowering women by equipping them with entrepreneurial skills and supporting their economic advancement. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) also signed with three start-ups for incubation programme.

Dr. S. B. Barbuddhe, Director, ICAR-NMRI, stressed the significant growth potential of the meat sector and discussed current challenges, noting the institute’s pivotal role in promoting entrepreneurship. He assured participants of continued technical guidance and support from ICAR-NMRI.
Addressing the participants, Ms. Swaroopa, Vice-President, ALEAP, highlighted the expanding entrepreneurial opportunities in the agriculture and livestock sectors. She also outlined ALEAP’s key initiatives that nurture and support emerging women entrepreneurs across the country.
Dr. M. Muthukumar , Course Director detailed that the EDP focused on hygienic pork production, processing technologies, value addition, packaging, branding, business planning, and funding opportunities. The programme attracted 20 participants from Assam, Mizoram, Haryana, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
