Dr. M. L. Jat, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), along with Dr. D. K. Yadava, Deputy Director General (Crop Science) ICAR, visited the ICAR–Central Institute for Cotton Research, Nagpur, today as part of an official review of ongoing research and developmental activities.

In his address, Dr. M. L. Jat emphasized the importance of dedicated service to the nation through resolving farmers’ problems, acknowledging farmers as vital food providers. He highlighted that everyone possesses equal potential and encouraged the staff to realize their capabilities through meaningful contributions to institutional and national development.
Addressing the staff, Dr. D. K. Yadava urged them to proactively address the challenges faced by cotton growers and demonstrate their professional capabilities by delivering effective and practical solutions.
The interaction was attended by Dr. V. N. Waghmare, Director, ICAR–CICR, Nagpur; Dr. D. K. Ghosh, Director, ICAR–CCRI, Nagpur; Dr. N. G. Patil, Director, ICAR–NBSS&LUP, Nagpur; Dr. S. K. Shukla, Director, ICAR–CIRCOT, Mumbai; Dr. Sammi Reddy, ICAR–NIASM, Baramati; Dr. R. A. Marathe, Director, ICAR–NRC on Pomegranate; Dr. Kaushik Banerjee, Director, ICAR–NRC on Grape; Dr. Vijay Mahajan, Director, ICAR–DOGR, Rajgurunagar; Dr. K. V. Prasad, Director, ICAR–DFR, Pune; along with other senior officials.

Dr. V. N. Waghmare, Director, ICAR–CICR, Nagpur, welcomed the dignitaries and presented a comprehensive overview of the institute’s achievements, ongoing research initiatives, and future priorities. Dr Jat along with the officials also interacted with the scientific, technical, and administrative staff of the institute, appreciating their contributions to research and development, particularly in the area of climate-resilient cotton farming.
During the interaction, the senior officials highlighted key issues related to staff position, infrastructure development, and financial constraints faced by their respective institutes. The Director General provided appropriate guidance and suggested possible solutions, noting that several issues are being addressed at the Council level and are under active consideration. He advised the Directors to work collaboratively and adopt a team-based approach by breaking institutional silos.
During the visit, the dignitaries undertook extensive field inspections to assess various research programmes and technological interventions related to cotton. As a symbolic gesture underscoring ICAR’s commitment to environmental sustainability and green initiatives, the delegates planted tree saplings in the premises of the main institute building.

A key highlight of the visit was an interactive meeting with the Directors of ten ICAR institutes across Maharashtra. The meeting focused on strengthening regional research coordination, addressing emerging agricultural challenges, and enhancing the outreach and impact of ICAR technologies for the benefit of farmers.
The visit reaffirmed ICAR’s vision of promoting innovation-driven, sustainable, and farmer-centric agricultural research through strengthened collaboration among its institutes.
