Dr. M. L. Jat, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR), visited ICAR-Central Citrus Research Institute, Nagpur today.
Dr. Jat engaged in an interactive discussion with the scientific, technical, and administrative staff of the institute. Addressing the staff, he encouraged scientists to work in a collaborative mode with other ICAR institutes and to uphold the spirit of the “One ICAR”. He stressed the need to strengthen citrus breeding programmes and conservation of valuable germplasm. Dr. Jat interacted with scientists from different disciplines and enquired about their ongoing research, achievements, and future vision. He also encouraged the administrative personnel to extend proactive and positive support to scientific endeavours.

The interaction with the Dr Jat, instilled a renewed sense of confidence and motivation among the staff towards strengthening research and development activities.
Dr. Sharad Gadakh, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. PDKV, Akola, highlighted the successful collaborative work undertaken with ICAR-CCRI in addressing the fruit drop problem in citrus orchards and the tangible benefits derived by the farming community through these recommendations.
During the interaction, Dr. D. K. Yadava, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR, emphasized that formulation of a robust citrus breeding programme should be accorded the highest priority by the institute.

Dr. Dilip Ghosh, Director, ICAR-CCRI, Nagpur, delivered the welcome address and highlighted that citrus is the third most important fruit crop in India. He emphasized that since its inception, ICAR-CCRI has been making significant contributions to the country’s citrus sector, which is valued at approximately ₹32,000 crore.
The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks, rendition of the National Anthem, presentation of a memento to Dr. Jat, and a group photograph with the dignitaries.
