Dr. Rajbir Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR, visited Sasya Shyamala Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Narendrapur, accompanied by Dr. J.K. Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science); Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrcakpore; and Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata. As part of the visit, a Farmers’ Interaction Programme was organised with the participation of 112 beneficiaries, including members of Samata FPC, Sonarpur; Keora Women FPC, Canning–I; and several progressive farmers reflecting the KVK’s strong community engagement and outreach.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Rajbir Singh urged the farmers to adopt modern technologies, utilise KVK and extension support systems, and pursue diversified enterprises to enhance their income. He also highlighted the vital role of women in agriculture and urged them to make full use of emerging opportunities for socio-economic advancement.

In his remarks, Dr. J.K. Jena commended the contributions of SSKVK and emphasized greater focus on the blue economy, along with strengthened collaboration between fisheries research institutes and KVKs to boost field-level impact.
Dr. B.K. Das underscored the importance of optimal stocking density and scientific feeding practices for improved fish productivity.
Dr. Pradip Dey advocated for a market-led production system through a cluster-based approach rooted in Jan Sahabhagita to enhance aggregation, planning, and value realization.
Dignitaries also observed practical demonstrations and field innovations that are transforming local agriculture through scientific learning, technology integration, and skill development reinforcing the KVK’s role as a hub for farmer-centered development and rural transformation.
A key highlight of the event was the release of a success story compendium documenting local innovations and achievements. Nutritious saplings were distributed to 100 adopted women beneficiaries from Scheduled Caste communities to strengthen household nutritional security and support rural empowerment.

During the interaction with KVK staff and scientists, Dr. Singh stressed the need to scale up soil testing and soil health initiatives, strengthen ICT-enabled knowledge delivery for efficient technology dissemination, expand production of quality horticulture planting material, and promote technologies that reduce drudgery for farm women.
The programme concluded with a comprehensive tour of KVK facilities, including the Fisheries Lab, vermicompost unit, livestock rearing unit, and seed processing unit, where Dr. Singh provided strategic guidance and recommendations for further improvement.
