Awareness and Pre-Sowing Programmes in Remote Border Villages Under Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan Organised

As part of the ongoing Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, scientists from ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora, organized impactful awareness and pre-sowing training programmes in the remote Himalayan villages of Niti and Gamshali, located along the Indo-China border.

Designed to enhance capacity building and facilitate technology transfer in high-altitude tribal regions, the initiative focused on promoting improved cultivation practices and addressing local agricultural challenges.
Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Director, ICAR-VPKAS, emphasized that outreach to such strategically important and difficult-to-access villages reflects the Institute’s commitment to inclusive agricultural development, particularly in border regions.

The scientists conducted a pre-sowing session on garden pea cultivation, demonstrated onion set planting techniques, and distributed literature on best farming practices. The programme engaged 33 farmers and highlighted key concerns such as inadequate mobile connectivity, the need for field fencing, and limited access to government schemes.

In Gamshali village, a similar programme witnessed the active participation of 91 farmers. The team provided hands-on demonstrations in vegetable crop management, pest and disease control, and distributed critical agricultural inputs. Farmers voiced their requirements for quality potato seed, protection from wild animals through fencing, and improved irrigation facilities.
