The three-day 40th Annual Conference and National Symposium of the Indian Poultry Science Association (IPSA) concluded today at the University Auditorium of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), Rajendranagar. Held on the theme “Flock to the Future: Embracing Technology, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Sustainability in Poultry Production for Protein Security in Viksit Bharat,” the event brought together over 400 delegates, including scientists, academicians, industry leaders, policymakers, and students.
Jointly organized by ICAR–Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad, and IPSA, the conference opened on 9 December with inaugural addresses by Dr. K. C. Veeranna, Vice Chancellor, KVAFSU, Bidar, and Dr. K. Ilambarithi, IAS, Secretary, AHDDF, Government of Telangana. Both leaders highlighted the growing role of the poultry sector in ensuring nutritional security and strengthening the rural economy, while underscoring value-chain strengthening to meet the protein goals of Viksit Bharat 2047.

Keynote lectures were delivered by Dr. Tarun Shridhar, IAS (Retd.), Former Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India, and Dr. D. V. R. Prakash Rao, President, NAVS(I) and Chairman & Managing Director, Prakash Foods & Feed Mills Pvt. Ltd., Chennai.

Over the three days, experts deliberated on a wide range of challenges and opportunities in the poultry sector. Key actionable recommendations included:
•Advancing phenotyping and genomic selection in indigenous breeds for sustainability and lifetime productivity.
•Integrating molecular tools with conventional breeding.
•Strengthening backyard and rural poultry for livelihood enhancement.
•Innovating in nutrition and feed resources, including alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters and climate-resilient feeding strategies.
•Strengthening disease surveillance, vaccination, and One Health–based approaches.
•Enhancing biosecurity and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) mitigation.
•Promoting post-harvest innovation, export preparedness, and establishing a National Centre for Poultry Product Innovation.
•Developing technology-driven production systems and bolstering capacity building, farmer training, and industry–academia partnerships
IPSA conferred Lifetime Achievement Awards on Dr. V. Ayyagari, Former Director, ICAR-DPR, and Dr. V. K. Saxena, Former Assistant Director General, ICAR. IPSA Fellow recognitions were awarded to Dr. Soloman Rajkumar (ICAR-CCARI, Goa), Dr. R. Amutha (TANUVAS), Dr. Chandra Deo (ICAR-CARI, Bareilly), and Dr. Ramesh Chandra Hazary (Venkateshwara Hatcheries Group). Students and faculty members were also felicitated for best presentations across technical sessions.

In the valedictory session, Dr. M. Gnana Prakash, Vice Chancellor, PVNRTU, Hyderabad, emphasized the growth-enabling ecosystem of the Indian poultry sector and the need for collective efforts to address emerging challenges. IPSA President Dr. P. K. Shukla and ICAR-DPR Director Dr. R. N. Chatterjee reiterated the vital role of research institutions in driving innovation, sustainability, and resilience.
The conference concluded with a call for a holistic, future-ready strategy integrating entrepreneurship, technology, One Health principles, sustainable feed systems, waste-to-wealth models, and farmer-centric innovations to build a globally competitive poultry sector capable of contributing significantly to the protein security goals under Viksit Bharat 2047.
