The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata organized the two-day Awareness Campaign on “Climate-Resilient Inland Fisheries” and Fingerling Stocking Programme in Climate-Resilient Systems to celebrate the “Kisan Bhagidari, Zimmedari Hamari” from 29th to 30th April, 2022. The Programmes were organized at Panchpota and Media Wetlands, North 24-Parganas, West Bengal under the NICRA Project.

Dr. Uttam Kumar Sarkar, Principal Investigator, NICRA Project; HoD, RWF Division, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore highlighted the effects of climate change on the wetland fisheries and the various mitigation & adaptation strategies & their benefits.

The three CIFRI HDPE Pen (0.1 Ha each) were installed at the Panchpota Wetland and 6 CIFRI GI Cages at Media Wetland.
Around 90 kg Labeo bata, Puntius sarana and Ompok bimaculatus seeds were stocked in the Climate-Resilient Pen System at Panchpota and Climate-Resilient Cage System (CRCS) at Media. Around 3 Tonnes of CIFRI CageGrow Feed was also distributed during the programme.
The programmes organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence registered participation by 70 Fishers.
