The ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres, Barrackpore, Kolkata organized the “Jute Industry-Stakeholders’ Meet” today.

In his address, the Chief Guest, Shri U.P. Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India accentuated on the usefulness of the ICAR-CRIJAF’s developed technologies for import substitution and export promotion of Jute. He stressed on promoting the technologies and varieties with high productive potential (40 q/ha) and best fibre quality (comparable to TD1 and TD2) that the country has with it. The result of demonstrated technology of Jute sector on improved retting like In-Situ water conservation, slow moving water system, liquid ICAR-CRIJAF SONA, etc., to provide best quality fibre keeping in mind the climate resilience of the technology and produce better grade fibre were appreciated by Shri Singh.
The Guests of Honor, Shri M.C. Chakraborty, Jute Commissioner and Shri A.K. Jolly, Managing Director, Jute Corporation of India, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India opined that the concerted and coordinated programme implemented by ICAR-CRIJAF, JCI and NJB have resulted in higher productivity and quality of Jute in the current cropping season of 2021.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore highlighted the advancement of new cultivation and post-harvest technologies of Jute among all the stakeholders involved in farming, processing, manufacturing, policy making, marketing and export. He also emphasized on promoting the other allied fibres - flax, ramie, sisal and sunnhemp that have economic and ecosystem services values and can be suitable substitutes of plastics and synthetics.
The dignitaries also visited the different models of In-Situ Retting Tank and Solar Operated Slow Moving Retting Water Facility in the newly developed Retting Complex of the Institute.
A total of 30 participants from the Jute and Allied Fibre Industries, Ministry of Textiles, State Government and ICAR Scientists participated in the Meet.
