Padma Bhushan, Dr. Ram Badan Singh, Former Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, Imphal delivered a Lecture on “Agricultural Transformation for Nutritional Security” today. The Lecture was arranged as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” by the ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, Nainital, Uttarakhand to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
In his lecture, Dr. Singh emphasized on the benefits of agricultural transformation in improving the food and nutritional security in the rural areas. He said that India, being the second largest agrarian economy of the world, needs transformation for ensuring the nutritional security through agricultural production. He accentuated on enhancing the farm income from growing urban demand for farm products and making farming commercially viable by strengthening the inter-linkages with the other sectors of the economy. The importance of Smart agriculture farming practices for combating the climate change, bringing innovative thinking and multi-disciplinary expertise for doubling the farmer’s income was also underlined in Dr. Singh’s Lecture.

In his address, Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science), ICAR regarded Dr. Singh’s Lecture as informative and motivational.
Dr. Gopal Krishna, Vice-Chancellor & Director, ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, Maharashtra was also present during the occasion.
Dr. Dilip Kumar, Former Vice-Chancellor & Director, ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai, Maharashtra outlined Dr. R.B. Singh’s contributions to the development of agriculture in the country.
Earlier, in his inaugural address, Dr. Pramod Kumar Pandey, Director, ICAR-DCFR, Bhimtal outlined the contributions made by Dr. R.B. Singh in the agricultural sector and developing the widely adopted modern varieties of wheat, rice, pulses, oilseeds and cotton, etc. This has contributed and continues to contribute immensely to the food, economic and livelihood securities.
More than 100 participants from the various ICAR Institutes, Krishi Vigyan Kendras and State Agricultural Universities also virtually attended the Lecture.
