ICAR-IIOR, Hyderabad Establishes Advanced Speed Breeding Facility with Support from ICICI Foundation

6 May 2026, Hyderabad

ICAR-Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research, Hyderabad in collaboration with ICICI Foundation, established a state-of-the-art Speed Breeding Facility under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of the Foundation. The advanced facility is designed to accelerate crop improvement programmes in oilseed crops through controlled environmental conditions that promote rapid flowering and plant development, thereby significantly reducing generation time and enabling faster breeding cycles.

The facility was inaugurated by Dr M.L. Jat, Secretary, DARE, and Director General, ICAR in the presence of distinguished dignitaries including Dr D.K. Yadava, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR; Dr R.K. Mathur, Director, ICAR-IIOR, Hyderabad; Dr Gopal Singh, Director, ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad; Dr R.M. Sundaram, Director, ICAR-IIRR, Hyderabad; Dr Tara Satyavathi, Director, ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad; along with representatives from various ICAR institutes and regional stations in Hyderabad.

Representatives from ICICI Foundation and ICICI Bank also participated in the inaugural programme.

The Speed Breeding Facility is expected to play a crucial role in accelerating the development of improved cultivars in mandate oilseed crops, thereby contributing towards enhanced productivity, climate resilience, and nutritional security.

The initiative reflects a strong partnership between agricultural research institutions and corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at advancing sustainable agricultural development and supporting the national mission for self-reliance in edible oil production.
