Dr M. L. Jat, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR, visited the ICAR–National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources, Yelahanka campus, Bengaluru, today. He was accompanied by Dr D. K. Yadava, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR.

In his address, Dr Jat commended the institute for its significant scientific contributions and recalled a farmer’s testimony during the Ministry’s Zonal Meeting (West Zone) held in Jodhpur, where the role of ICAR-NBAIR in supporting farmers was highly appreciated. He highlighted the institute’s potential role in upcoming national initiatives such as the ‘Agriculture for Health’ programme a collaborative effort between ICAR and ICMR and its alignment with the vision of Viksit Bharat. He further emphasized the importance of continuous feedback from farmers in shaping demand-driven research within ICAR.

During the visit, Dr Jat was briefed on the institute’s key activities and facilities, including the Butterfly Garden, where he planted a tree to mark the occasion. He also inaugurated the vertical expansion of the institute’s laboratory complex, marking a significant step towards strengthening research infrastructure. The programme featured an Institute–Industry–Farmers Interactive Meeting and an exhibition showcasing ICAR-NBAIR technologies.

Dr D. K. Yadava, in his address, underscored the need to further strengthen crop protection research and enhance the linkage between laboratory innovations and field-level applications. He congratulated the institute on establishing advanced laboratory facilities, noting that such developments would further elevate its scientific capabilities and outreach.

Earlier, Dr S. N. Sushil, Director, ICAR-NBAIR, presented an overview of the institute’s activities, achievements, and future roadmap.

The programme was attended by Directors and Station In-charges of various ICAR institutes, including ICAR–Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru; ICAR–Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Bengaluru; ICAR–National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology, Bengaluru; ICAR–Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore; ICAR–National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics, Bengaluru; and ICAR–National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning, Nagpur, among others.

Farmers shared their field experiences and feedback, while industry representatives discussed opportunities for scaling up and commercializing technologies developed by the institute.
The visit underscored ICAR’s commitment to promoting translational research, strengthening stakeholder partnerships, and accelerating the adoption of innovative agricultural technologies for the benefit of farmers.

The programme witnessed the participation of approximately 75 farmers and 10 industry representatives.
