ICAR – CCARI, Goa Celebrates International Labour Day as a Shramik Samman Diwas 2026

ICAR – Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa celebrated International Labour Day 2026 as ‘Shramik Samman Diwas’ today. The programme was organized to recognise and honour the invaluable contribution of labourers from all sections and units towards the development of the Institute, in line with this year’s theme “Ensuring a Healthy Psychosocial Working Environment.

Shri Rajesh Faldessai, MLA, Cumbharjua Constituency and Chairman, Goa Rehabilitation Board, Government of Goa, and Dr D. C. Verma, MLA, Mirganj, Government of Uttar Pradesh, graced the occasion as Chief Guests.

Dr Pradip Sarmokadam, Member Secretary, Goa State Biodiversity Board, and Shri Harikesh Bahadur, Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), Goa, were present as Guests of Honour.
Dr Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, highlighted the Institute’s continuous efforts towards the welfare of labourers both on-campus and off-campus. He briefed the gathering about various welfare activities and facilities being provided and being created for the labourers in the Institute premises, such as dispensary services, free coaching classes for children of workers, and voluntary support for their higher education. He further emphasized that the Institute’s achievements at the national level are the result of the collective efforts of all, especially the labourers who contribute tirelessly at the field level.

On this occasion, labourers from different sections were felicitated in recognition of their dedication and hard work. As a token of gratitude and concern for their well-being, all labourers were presented with white hats to protect them from the hot summer conditions during field work.

The Chief Guests and Guests of Honour appreciated the Institute’s inclusive approach towards labour welfare and emphasized the importance of a healthy and supportive work environment for overall productivity and dignity of labour.

The programme also included an inspirational movie screening for workers, followed by interaction sessions and addresses by dignitaries.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of around 170 contractual labourers, security staff, housekeeping staff, project staff, young professionals and Institute staff members.
