A five-day National Training Programme on “Fundamentals of Molecular Biology and Genome Editing: Principles and Applications” was organized at ICAR–Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad, from 7 to 11 September 2026. The training was conducted under the Development Action Plan for Scheduled Tribes (DAPST/TSP) component of the ICAR-Network Program on Application of Genome Editing Technology for Improvement in Livestock Health and Production (NPGET) and ICAR-DPR to strengthen the knowledge and practical laboratory skills of Scheduled Tribe candidates.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr R. N. Chatterjee, Director, ICAR-DPR, who welcomed the participants and highlighted the growing importance of molecular biology and genome-editing tools in poultry research, genetic improvement, and disease diagnostics.
The programme included expert lectures on the fundamentals of molecular biotechnology and genome editing, guide-RNA design, sequencing-data analysis, mesenchymal stem-cell culture, Chicken Embryonic Fibroblast culture, Primordial Germ Cell culture, electroporation, in-vitro cleavage assays, and data analysis.
The major component of the training was hands-on practical exposure and trainees gained direct experience in chicken embryo fibroblast and primordial germ cell cultures, protein isolation, and CRISPR-Cas9 and CRISPR-Cas12a workflows.
A total of 16 participants successfully completed the training programme.
