ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kirlos, Sindhudurg, conducted a Training-cum-Input Distribution Programme on “Scientific Poultry Farming” under the Institute Scheduled Tribe Component (STC) at Kankavali, Sindhudurg today.
The training covered backyard poultry farming, improved poultry varieties, breeding, housing, feeding, disease management and biosecurity.
The technical sessions covered key aspects of scientific poultry production and management. The session on best practices in poultry housing and feeding management emphasized proper housing, adequate ventilation, hygiene, balanced feeding and scientific management practices for improving productivity.
The participants were also sensitized to poultry disease prevention, management and biosecurity, with emphasis on vaccination, sanitation, disease surveillance and timely identification of health problems. Another session highlighted the potential of backyard poultry farming as a means of improving livelihoods and strengthening nutritional security among Scheduled Tribe farmers in the coastal region.
As part of the programme, 300 Gramapriya poultry chicks and veterinary medicines were distributed to 30 Scheduled Tribe beneficiaries.
The initiative aimed to promote low-cost, scientific and sustainable backyard poultry farming for enhanced livelihood and nutritional security among tribal farmers of Maharashtra.
A total of 30 participants attended the programme, including 15 males and 15 females.
