ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (ICAR-NBFGR), Lucknow, celebrated World Intellectual Property Day today by organizing a workshop entitled "IP Manthan: IP Awareness and Encouraging Creativity and Innovation" in hybrid mode. The event focused on the rapidly evolving intersections of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Intellectual Property (IP), and scientific research.
Dr. Kajal Chakraborty, Chairman, Institute Technology Management Committee (ITMC) and Director, ICAR-NBFGR, inaugurated the workshop. In his address, he highlighted the dynamic landscape of AI in scientific research and data mining. Highlighting the multifaceted role of AI, from content generation to enhancing human creativity, Dr Chakraborty underlined the emerging challenges and opportunities AI brings to the realm of copyright and intellectual property protection.

Invited lectures by eminent experts added depth to the discussions addressing the critical distinction between AI-assisted innovation and AI-generated works, and how these differences impact IP protection strategies.
The workshop witnessed participation from around 70 researchers and students. Interactive panel sessions provided a platform for lively discussions, enabling participants to gain insights into the techno-legal challenges posed by AI and strategies for safeguarding intellectual assets in a changing environment.
Later, Dr. Chakraborty led an engaging interactive session with researchers, encouraging them to identify technologies with IP potential that could be strategically developed and translated from the laboratory to the marketplace for greater societal impact.
The programme offered valuable perspectives on the evolving synergy between AI technologies and IP laws, empowering researchers to navigate and contribute responsibly to this rapidly transforming innovation landscape.
