World Camel Day celebrated

 ICAR-National Research Center on Camel, Bikaner celebrated 'World Camel Day here today'. On this occasion, a camel decoration competition and camel race competition were held along with Camel products technology exhibition at Camel Sports Complex. A “Stakeholder Meet” on ‘Socio-economic aspects of camel husbandry and livelihood security’ was organized and attended by camel herders, farmers, entrepreneurs, students, and the general public/ tourists participated.

The Chief Guest, Shri Rajeev Srivastava, Divisional Railway Manager Bikaner Zone said that the camel is the pride of Rajasthan, and through such events, Camel herders are directly benefited.

The Guest of Honor, Shri Anil Rathore, Deputy Director, Rajasthan State Tourism, praised the memorable occasion and the initiative of NRCC to bring back glory of camel in its native tract.

The Chief Guest of the “Stakeholders Meet”, Dr. T. K. Gahlot, Former Head RAJUVAS, Bikaner expressed concern over the decline of the camel population. He emphasised the importance of Camel tourism and the use of camel milk for human health.

The Special Guest, Dr. R. K. Dhuria, Director Extension, RAJUVAS, Bikaner expressed the need for integrated farming with camel rearing in the field of camel husbandry and camel as a dairy animal.

The Special Guest, Shri Devansh, Manager, Project Management Agency, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, briefed about various government schemes.

Dr. Artabandhu Sahoo, Director, ICAR-NRCC Director urged the entrepreneurs and livestock farmers to undertake profitable ventures associated with camel husbandry.  He said camel milk has enormous potential for entrepreneurship due to its medicinal properties. Possibilities of livelihood from camel eco-tourism are also on the rise as Camel festivals are attracting tourists in Rajasthan, he added.

Camel-related products were also exhibited on this occasion by various entrepreneurs.
