Last week, certain grape vineyards of Niphad taluka in Nasik district of Maharashtra experienced heavy rain and hailstorm.

Dr. Kaushik Banerjee, Director, ICAR-National Research Centres, Grapes and Dr. Sujoy Saha, Pr. Scientist (Plant Pathology) in association with the Quinquennial Review Team (QRT) of the institute chaired by Dr. V.A. Parthasarathy, Former Director, ICAR-IISR and Members viz. Dr. B.K. Pandey, Former Assistant Director General (HS); Dr. Prakash Patil, Project Coordinator AICRP (Fruits); Dr. J. Rajangam, Dean, Horticultural College & Research Institute, Periyakulam; and Sh. Ashwin Rodrigues, Founder and Winemaker, Good Drop Wine Cellars, visited the affected vineyards during November 28th -30th, 2023.

The team interacted with the representatives of Maharashtra State Grape Growers Association and Grape Exporters Association of India and provided immediate solutions to mitigate the damage caused by heavy rain and hailstorm.

The grape growers and exporters appreciated the advisories especially regarding the post-rain disease management, which were immediately released by ICAR-NRCG scientists for the management of the emergency crop loss situation. The QRT also advised the growers to consult ICAR-NRCG for the economic utilization of damaged berries through appropriate processing treatments.
