Tripura Agriculture Minister Hails KVK's Farmer-Centric Innovations at Krishi Swarna Samriddhi Week Celebration

The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Tripura, under ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone-VII, Umiam, celebrated the Krishi Swarna Samriddhi Week from 6th-12th February 2025, marking the 50th anniversary of KVKs in the National Agricultural Research and Extension System (NARES). The event kicked off with a vibrant inaugural ceremony on 6th February at the ICAR-KVK campus, Panisagar, North Tripura, attended by Shri Ratan Lal Nath, Minister for Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Tripura, along with other prominent leaders and officials.   

During the celebration, the Minister laid the foundation stone for a Piggery Demonstration Unit funded under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikash Yojana (RKVY) and inaugurated an exhibition showcasing KVK’s achievements, farmers' innovations, and products from FPOs and SHGs. The event also featured the felicitation of innovative farmers and distribution of agricultural inputs to enhance productivity.

Shri Nath reaffirmed the government’s commitment to doubling farmers' income and transforming Tripura into a hub for self-reliant, technology-driven agriculture. He emphasized strengthening collaboration between various state agencies and the convergence of Central and State schemes to improve access to modern farming technologies. He also lauded KVK North Tripura’s role in empowering farmers through capacity-building programs and input support.

Shri Binay Bhusan Das, Member of Legislative Assembly, Panisagar, also commended KVK’s efforts in reaching farmers with innovative technologies. 

Dr A.K. Mohanty, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Umiam, highlighted the future role of KVKs in establishing themselves as District Institutes for Scientific Agriculture (DISA), urging the state government to scale up KVK-developed technologies for broader implementation.

The week-long celebration included technology demonstrations, workshops on integrated farming systems and agro-processing, aligning with ICAR’s vision of transforming rural livelihoods. The inaugural programme saw the distribution of agricultural inputs like battery-operated sprayers, honeybee boxes, pheromone traps, Kadaknath chicks, quality citrus seedlings, and vegetable seeds. Five progressive farmers were honored with the “Krishak Samman Award” for their innovative contributions to agriculture. 

Around 860 farmers from various groups, including SHGs, FPOs, and FIGs, attended the event.
