Training programme under Tribal Sub Plan at ICAR-IARI, Hazaribagh

ICAR-Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Research, Anand organized a 1-day training programme entitled ‘Awareness on conservation of medicinal and aromatic plant for health and livelihood security and farmer’s rights’ under the TSP scheme at ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Hazaribagh, Jharkhand today.

Mr. Manish Kumar Mittal, Scientist & Nodal officer, TSP, ICAR-DMAPR, Anand, spoke about the TSP scheme and briefed about the training programme.

Dr. Vishal Nath, OSD, ICAR-IARI, Hazaribagh, spoke about the importance of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants. He highlighted the scope of MAPs cultivation and conservation in Jharkhand state and urged the farmers to come forward for the cultivation of MAPs.

Dr. Kaushal Kumar, Head, AICRP MAP&B, Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, emphasised the tribal farmers about the indigenous traditional knowledge of culture related to MAPs along with the distribution of Giloy planting material to farmers.

Dr. Ranjay Kumar Singh, Head, KVK, Chatra, highlighted the market-led extension system in Jharkhand state.

Lectures on Agro-techniques and the market potential of selected medicinal and aromatic plants were organised during the progarmme. A team of scientists conducted training sessions, distributing farm inputs such as seed kits of MAPs and tarpaulin sheets, and distributing registration kits among beneficiary farmers.

A total of 100 farmers belonging to scheduled tribes from nearby villages were the beneficiary participants.
