Training and Distribution Programme on Scientific Pig Farming for Maharashtra Farmers

ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa organized a two-day training-cum-distribution programme on ‘Scientific Pig Farming’ under the Tribal Sub Plan of AICRP on Pig for farmers from Palghar, Maharashtra.

In his inaugural address, Dr Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, highlighted the potential of scientific pig farming and its profitability through low-cost rearing and integrated farming practices.

The training covered topics such as pig breeds and breeding practices, newborn piglet management, housing, feeding, reproductive care, stress management, health care, disease prevention, and integrated farming with pigs. Practical demonstrations on deworming, vaccination, and farm management were also conducted. An interactive session with scientists and farmers followed.

Piglets, feed, and medicinal supplements were distributed to all participants. 

The training was coordinated by Dr Amiya Ranjan Sahu, Dr Gokuldas P.P, and Dr Nibedita Nayak, with support from Ms Samradni Rohit Paigankar, Shri Kiran Hangaragi, and Ms Vedika Kudalkar.

About 17 participants attended the programme.
