23rd – 25th January 2025, Jharkhand
ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai in collaboration with the Directorate of Fisheries, Govt of Jharkhand organized a 3-day training-cum-demonstration programme on ‘Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) Farming Model’ at Dorwa Kundwa Gaow, Hazaribagh District, Jharkhand from 23-25 January 2025.
The programme was inaugurated by Mr John Tudy, Sub-Divisional Officer, and Dr Pradeep Kumar, District Fisheries Officer, Hazaribagh. They highlighted the significance of IMTA in promoting sustainable production of fish, pearl mussels (Sepia), and water chestnuts (Singhara) within a shared culture environment, aiming to enhance both production and productivity through nutrient recycling.
The programme was carried out under the guidance of Dr C.N. Ravishankar, Director/Vice-Chancellor, ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai and other senior officials.
Dr Prem Kumar, Sr. Scientist, ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai and Coordinator of this programme briefed the technical details and scientific knowledge of IMTA farming including its economic benefits.
An IMTA farming system was set up and its operatios demonstrated to the trainees after the training session. The fish seed, pearl mussel and water chestnut, required for IMTA system were distributed among the beneficiaries.
More than 80 Scheduled Tribe (ST) beneficiaries including women, scientists and fisheries officials attended the programme.
