Skill Development Programme on Integrated Farming System

8th May – 12th May 2023, Nagapattinam

ICAR- National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad organized five- day Skill Development on “Integrated Farming System” under SCSP in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), TNJFU, Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu for SC farmers from 08-12th May 2023.

Prof. Dr. G. Sugumar, Vice Chancellor, TNJFU, Nagapattinam, delivered the presidential address. He stressed about the role of allied components in IFS to improve the additional farm income, and livelihood security of farm women, and the role of modern techniques of fish in integrated farming to achieve higher production. He urged the farmers to utilize all the KVK demonstration units as the model for the adoption of the Integrated Farming System.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, NAARM, Hyderabad addressed integrated farming system models for effective utilization of farm resources, more net profit from fewer land areas, rural employment generation, alleviating malnutrition in rural areas, and doubling the farmer’s income. He urged the farmers to cultivate mushrooms, sericulture, poultry farming, and fish culture by forming FPOs for better marketing of their produce. Also, exhorted on avoiding stubble burning and using the stubble as mulch and compost.

Dr. M. Balakrishnan, Principal Scientist & Chairman, SCSP, ICAR–NAARM, Hyderabad in his keynote address, urged the farmers to utilize the training effectively and adoption of technology like IFS. Farmers should become an entrepreneur and master trainers for the technology transfer to fellow farmers.

Dr. N. Felix, Registrar, TNJFU Nagapattinam presided over the valedictory programme and distributed inputs i.e., Vermi bags, Aseel Desi Chicks, Vegetable seed kits, Teak and Coconut seedlings to the participants.

A total of 40 farmers including farm women, and rural youths participated from Sikkal, Panimedu, Mozhithidal, Vadakku poigainallur, Anthakudi and Melakaraiiruppu villages of Nagapattinam district.
