Shri Pratap Chandra Sarangi visits ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar

Shri Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises visited the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar, Odisha today.

During his visit, the Minister reviewed the freshwater aquaculture research activities being carried out by the Institute. He stressed on the need for developing sustainable technology for better production keeping the safety of the environment in mind and carrying out the result-oriented research. Shri Sarangi urged the Institute to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State & Union Territory Departments for faster dissemination of aquaculture technologies.

During his visit to the Institute’s farm facilities, the Minister interacted with the researchers working on Bio-floc, Tilapia Farming, Genetically Improved Rohu “Jayanti” Scampi, Carps, Minor Carps, Aquaponics, Murrel, Ornamental fish, Feed Mill, KVK, etc. The Minister inaugurated the Recirculatory Aquaculture System for Murrel. Shri Sarangi also released a set of “16 Odia Leaflets on Popular Aquaculture Technologies” during the occasion.

Shri Sagar Mehra, Joint Secretary (Inland Fisheries), Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India; Dr. J. Balaji, I.A.S., Joint Secretary (Marine Fisheries), Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India; Dr. C. Suvarna, I.F.S., Chief Executive, National Fish Development Board, Hyderabad along with senior officials of Government of India and State Government Departments were also present during the occasion.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. S.K. Swain, Director, ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar briefed about the Institute’s research accomplishments and progress of Flagship Schemes, viz., STC, SCSP, NEH, Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, etc.
